the meaning of zawadi.
“Zawadi” means gift in Swahili, and our organization embodies that spirit by sharing our cultural gifts with the San Fernando Valley. We are committed to uplifting our community through collaboration, working alongside like-minded individuals and organizations to build a strong, united collective dedicated to empowerment, service, and cultural enrichment.
Mission statement
Our mission is to uplift and empower the underserved communities of the San Fernando Valley by providing culturally inspired programs, transformative events, and essential support services. Through initiatives such as women’s empowerment summit, youth leadership and business programs, and weekly food distribution, we work to end food insecurity and promote long-term stability for local families. In addition, our free clothing and home goods offerings ensure that community members have access to the resources they need to live with dignity. We are committed to inspiring individuals of all ages to realize their potential, strengthen their well-being, and build a more resilient, thriving community.
OUR CORE PRINCIPLES
Our core principles serve as the foundation of our organization’s purpose. While we continue to expand and introduce new programs and events, everything we create is guided by these principles. They are our compass, our constant source of direction and inspiration.
Food InsecurityThrough weekly food distributions and community partnerships, we are reducing hunger, restoring dignity, and strengthening the wellbeing of the San Fernando Valley.
